In the insurance world, we often refer to what is called “Property & Casualty” or “P & C”. The most common property and casualty insurance for individuals are auto, home, and renters insurance. And, depending on your hobbies, you may also choose to insure some of your “toys”. Property and casualty insurance makes it possible to drive a car, live in a home, and own possessions without worrying about the risk of potential financial consequences in the event of an accident or natural disaster.
Make Richards Insurance your first call with your auto, home, and personal insurance needs.
In Wisconsin, if you are driving a car, the law requires that the car is insured. Your auto insurance policy must provide the following minimum liability coverage:
$25,000 for injury or death of one person;
$50,000 for injury or death of two or more people; and
$10,000 for property damage.
The law also requires uninsured motorist coverage with a minimum limit of $25,000 for one person and $50,000 for two or more people for bodily injury coverage.

Teen driver? | Insurance is not needed with a Learner’s Permit, but it is once your teen starts driving on their own. Unfortunately, teen drivers are more likely to get into an accident than any other age group, so rates are typically high. Your agent at Richards Insurance can work with you to discuss options that can help to lower these rates. To prevent accidents form occurring, it’s always best to make sure your kids are aware of the risks and consequences of their choices when getting behind the wheel.
Company Car? | If you own a business and have company cars or if employees drive their own cars for company use, you may need commercial auto insurance. Learn more about business insurance.

Homeowners Insurance
There are four types of coverage that can be included in a homeowner’s policy: dwelling and personal property, personal liability, medical payments, and additional living expenses.
Dwelling and Personal Property | Every home is unique in its own way. At Richards Insurance, we want to make sure you have the proper coverage for your property. We take the time to make sure you are insured to value – not over insured or underinsured.
We also check to see you have the special endorsements that you may need. This may include:
Replacement Cost
Umbrella Policy
Catastrophe
Water/Sewer Backup
Special Jewelry
Flood Insurance
Sheds or Other Structures
Personal Liability | Personal liability coverage provides financial protection for you and your family. In the event that someone gets injured or something incurs damage and you are held responsible, you will be covered.
Medical Payments | Accidents happen. Medical payment coverage is designed to pay for medical expenses to others who get hurt on your property. This includes injuries caused by an animal or pet.
Additional Living Expenses | If tragedy strikes, this type of insurance would cover expenses that exceed your normal expenses prior to your loss. An example would be the need to stay in a hotel after having a fire in your home.
Renters Insurance
If you are a renter, it is important to have renters insurance to cover your personal property in case of fire, theft, or vandalism. Renters insurance does not cover the dwelling or structure. Your landlord’s policy on the rental covers the apartment itself, but not the renter’s belongings. Renters insurance is a very good value and is usually less than $0.75 per day.
Condo Insurance
Condo insurance covers everything inside your condo. The external areas of your condo fall under a policy that is held by your condo association. The type of coverage you will need for your condo depends on the type of coverage your association provides. Coverage could include: interior walls, appliances, personal property, and valuables. Like a homeowner, it is also important to have liability coverage in case someone gets hurt.
Motorcycle Insurance
The law requires all motorcyclists to have liability insurance to cover damages and injuries that occur in an accident that was caused by the motorcyclist. Other types of coverage offered include: custom parts and equipment, roadside assistance, medical coverage, and uninsured/underinsured motorists coverage. Agents at Richards Insurance can discuss these options with you.
ATVs | Boats | Campers | RVs | Jet Skis | Snowmobiles
Wisconsin is well-known for it’s recreation in both summer and winter. Generally, liability insurance is needed for these “toys”. Depending on the value, you may also want to insure the ATV, boat, camper, RV, jet ski, or snowmobile itself. Richards Insurance can request quotes from carriers that you have current policies with, or from other carriers.
